Change colors of CMD permanently with video tutorial

Posted by Edward
CMD is like old DOS OS and looks too much old. But you can do lot of work using this (delete files, copy files, change IP address, to format hard drive and for much more). You can customize it little bit. Means you can change colors of CMD using below codes:
color 1f
color 2f
color f2
and some other combinations. Color changing permanently or temporarily both are given in this article.

In color 1f 1 is color of background and f is color of text. Some codes for colors are:

0 = Black
1 = Blue
2 = Green
3 = Aqua
4 = Red
5 = Purple
6 = Yellow
7 = White
8 = Gray
9 = Light Blue
a = Light Green
b = Light Aqua
c = Light Red
d = Light Purple
e = Light Yellow
f = Bright White
You can use these codes to make different combinations. But this is not permanent, when you'll open CMD after closing it will be in its original settings. But I have a method by which you can change its colors permanently.

Steps:

Steps are very easy not so difficult and these are for XP, Vista and 7.

1. First of all make shortcut of CMD

Making shortcut for Windows 7 or vista:

  • Click on start and type CMD in box just above start button.
  • Move cursor over CMD and give it a right click.
  • Now move your cursor over send to and select Desktop (create shortcut) from sub-menu of send to.
  • Shortcut is Created on desktop.

Making shortcut for Windows XP:

  • Right click on anywhere on desktop and move pointer to new and click on shortcut from sub-menu of new.
  • Next box will ask for file for which you are going to make shortcut, just write in that CMD and press enter.
  • Next box will ask for name of the shortcut you want to give. Leave that as default or change name to whatever you want and again press enter.
  • Shortcut is ready.

2. Change colors of CMD:

After making shortcut of command prompt now head toward changing its colors.
  • Right click on CMD shortcut that you made and click on its properties.
  • Click on colors tab for changing colors.
  • You can also change its layout and can also make it to open in full screen mode.
  • Just configure CMD according to your needs from there and click on apply and then on OK.
