Viruses are all over Internet, I would like to say that Internet is full of viruses instead of files. If you get a file for free you’ll definitely get a virus with it. There are very small amount of websites that should be trusted. So if you are going to download software then don’t trust anyone, even me. Try to check files with antivirus to make sure that files are free of viruses.
Antivirus:
You can get free antivirus if you want. Avast is a free antivirus with automatic updates and is reliable, try this for your system security. Antivirus is essential because it can protect you from viruses found over web or in files. You can also try some other good antivirus that is free but upgraded is recommended because it contains more features in it. You get good support with upgraded service.
There are some other antiviruses that are freeware and provide good security to your device. You should try to find that antivirus software that give you real-time protection and automatic updates. Nearly every antivirus can update itself automatically. Try to find an antivirus software that contains firewall too.
Firewall:
A firewall is for preventing unauthorized access to your computer or from a private network. You can install some firewall software for preventing someone connecting with your computer or you can add some hardware that can do this for you. But you can get some extra protection by getting both of them. In protecting private information, a firewall is considered as first line of defence. You can get some open source firewalls from different companies like comodo is providing free personal firewall. There are also some antivirus software that have built-in firewall for your OS. Most antivirus give that feature for upgraded members only. ESET smart security contains that firewall by default. If you are going to buy some antivirus software for protection of your PC then give a try to ESET Smart Security and Avast. You can get Avast free for personal use but upgrading can give you more protection. Some other antivirus companies with good protection are Bitdefender, AVG Anti-Virus, Avira, Norton by Symantec McAfee and Kaspersky. Note:Don't install more then one firewall software for your operating system. They may interfere with each other and cannot protect your PC correctly. Windows come with default firewall in it, first disable that and then install your personal firewall.Try to make backup of your most important files. You can use online services like Google Drive and Skydrive for that.
